Open and close a till session at POS

Open and close till sessions to track cash accurately and finalize daily sales.

Transcript

In this video, you'll learn how to open and close a till session in Roller POS.

In POS, go to more, settings, current till session.

Roller automatically starts a till session with the first transaction of the day. However, best practice is to open the till manually at the start of each day. This lets you confirm the previous session was closed and helps ensure accurate cash tracking.

If a till float has been set in Venue Manager, it's applied automatically.

If no float is set, for example, on card only terminals or when using variable floats, the expected balance starts at zero.

To add cash to the drawer, use the cash in and out to log the float manually.

This keeps the expected cash balance accurate for end of day reconciliation.

At the end of trading, you'll need to close the till for the day. This finalizes your cash handling and keeps your reports accurate. Closing the till confirms that all cash movements are complete and ready for reconciliation.

To close the till session, select more, settings, current till session, then select close till session at the bottom of the screen.

To close the till, start by counting all the cash in the drawer, including the float.

Enter the total into the cash value field. If you prefer, you can use the cash calculator to help add up your denominations. It's a helpful way to double check your total and avoid mistakes.

If you use the calculator, you'll see a confirmation screen before the till closes.

After you've entered the total cash amount, select Submit to close the till session.

Next, you'll see a summary of the till session.

This includes total payments and any variance between the expected cash and the amount you counted. If there is a variance, take a moment to review it carefully.

If needed, you can print a copy of the till closure report.

Managers or administrators can also access a digital version in Venue Manager.

You now know how to open and close a till session.

This helps ensure accurate cash tracking and a smooth end of day close.
